Tahirih Justice Service
Serving immigrant survivors on their journeys to safety and justice
The Tahirih Justice Center is an award-winning, national, nonprofit organization that serves women, girls, and all immigrant survivors of gender-based violence. Our whole-person approach provides each survivor with free legal support and social services to secure their rights and build stable lives while engaging in training and bridge-building policy advocacy to ensure that communities, laws, and policies protect survivors from violence and exploitation. By amplifying the experiences of survivors, our mission is to create a world in which all people share equal rights and live safely and with dignity.
DIRECT SERVICES. We support survivors of violence through free legal and social services, from direct representation to emergency shelter, food, and health care. Access to these basic needs allows Tahirih clients to build lives of safety and comfort in a new and unfamiliar place.
POLICY ADVOCACY. We engage in nonpartisan public policy advocacy—centering the needs of immigrant survivors in communities, courts, and Congress—to ensure that laws and policies protect survivors’ right to be free from violence and exploitation.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND TRAINING. We educate thousands of frontline professionals on the unique obstacles immigrant survivors face, giving communities the essential tools to help survivors in crisis.
PRO BONO NETWORKS. We partner with a nationwide network of more than 2,800 pro bono attorneys, medical professionals, and other volunteers, turning every $1 you donate into $4 of impact.

Limestone Community School
Limestone Community School, nestled in the heart of the prairie in Lawrence, Kansas, redefines elementary education through a hands-on, problem-based learning approach. The school’s mission takes on greater significance given its location in a high-poverty area with low life expectancy, as highlighted in the Douglas County Health Equity Report (2021). Limestone extends its vision beyond education, incorporating sustainable building practices and promoting community health. Along with fundraising for the purchase of the building, we are actively working towards the Living Building Challenge as plans of renovation and expansion take root with the help of Multistudio. It has the potential to be one of the first Living Buildings in Kansas while positively impacting the health of the community. With a stable future ensured for our current students, staff, and school community, we can look ahead to opening locations across the Midwest.
